Coyl is a marketplace where people buy and sell used phones, laptops and other electronics. Coyl holds the payment until the buyer has checked the device, and every laptop is listed from a scan of its own hardware.
Coyl started from a simple frustration: buying a used phone or laptop online meant gambling on a stranger's honesty. Battery health, IMEI status, whether "good condition" actually meant good condition: none of it could be checked, so most working devices ended up traded in for pennies, or in a drawer, or a landfill, instead of with a second owner.
We're a small team based in Riga, Latvia, building what used-electronics resale has been missing. Listings are filled in from the device itself where we can: every laptop is scanned with the free Coyl app. And the payment stays with Coyl until the buyer confirms the device matches the listing. Not a pawn shop and not a trade-in kiosk that lowballs you, but a marketplace where sellers get a fair price, buyers know what they're getting, and a device that would have been e-waste gets another owner.
We're starting in the Baltics and plan to grow across the EU, one listing at a time.
Every laptop listing is filled in from the Coyl app's scan of that machine: processor, memory, storage, screen and battery health. Other devices are listed from our catalog of reference specs, so the model details are right.
Manufacturing one new phone produces roughly 50–80kg of CO₂. Keeping a working one in circulation for another owner is still the single best thing we can do with it.
The payment stays with Coyl until the buyer confirms the device matches the listing. If it doesn't, the buyer reports it and Coyl decides who gets the money, so nobody has to chase a refund.
We're a small founding team based in Riga, close enough to the problem to fix it properly before we grow. If that sounds like your kind of thing, we'd like to hear from you.
