When you sell

Every laptop on Coyl is listed with a scan, so you need the app to sell one. It reads the processor, memory and storage that buyers compare first, plus battery health, which photos can't show.

Your listing fills in from the scan. No hunting for spec sheets.

When you buy

Run the same app when a laptop arrives, during your 72 hours to check it. Every spec it reads should match the listing.

If they don't, you have clear numbers to show when you report a problem.

Questions

No. It only reads hardware information. It installs nothing, changes no settings and never opens your files.
When a scan finishes, the app tells Coyl a scan happened: just a random ID for this copy of the app and its version number, nothing about the laptop or you. The scan results are only sent when you press Get my listing code, so the sell page can fill in your listing. The serial number never leaves your laptop: only a scrambled fingerprint of it is sent, so one scan can't be reused for a different laptop.
The app isn't signed with a publisher certificate yet, so Windows may say Windows protected your PC. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
The Mac app isn't notarised by Apple yet, so macOS stops it the first time. Open the zip you downloaded, then open Coyl Diagnostics and choose Done. Go to System Settings, then Privacy & Security, scroll down and choose Open Anyway next to Coyl Diagnostics. On macOS 14 and older you can instead Control-click the app and choose Open. After that it opens normally.
Codes work for 15 minutes, which keeps scans from being guessed. Press Get my listing code again for a new one. Once you're signed in on the sell page, the scan stays with your account.
Windows laptops on Windows 10 or 11, and Macs on macOS 11 Big Sur or later, with Apple silicon or Intel. Run it on the laptop you're selling or checking; a scan of one computer can't be used for another.
